Helen has from an early age been interested in gardening and plants, and especially Australian native flowers. She remembers, as a young girl, preserving specimens collected on bush walks in a hand-made flower-press, with a few rudimentary attempts at drawing them.
Early in 2019, she found herself with time to finally “have a go” at botanical art, having been inspired by an exhibition mounted by the Society that she happened upon at Brisbane Botanic Gardens a few years prior. The journey from rudimentary leaf outlines to detailed graphite tonal studies has been inspiring and greatly satisfying.
With much to learn in terms of skills, techniques and mastery of watercolour, she is looking forward to furthering her journey.
